In this class we worked with all types of paint. We started by looking at the color wheel and mixing and matching colors. Color theory is an important part of painting. The first paintings were created with watercolor. The owls are an oil pastel resist with watercolor. I taught this class by first doing a project as a group and then the students could create their own images with the same tools as the group project. After the owls we started painting with tempera and then acrylic. I think the students enjoyed the acrylic paint the most. Our last project was a self-portrait. We studied many different artist self-portraits. The students drew numerous portraits and then compose a painting from those drawings. If you would like to see these self-portraits, they will be hanging in the Front Gallery of The Arts Center starting some time in March. I will post the dates when they are finalized.
