Some of you may know that I was teaching printmaking for the University of North Dakota, but with recent budget cuts I no longer had a job.  I took that as a sign that it was time for a change.  Grand Forks was very good to me.  I appreciate my life experiences and opportunities I had while living there but the time had come to see what else was out there. 

I landed in Uptown, Minneapolis, MN.  I currently working full time as a custom framer. 

As I was finishing up teaching in GF, I had started a new print series.  It is taking a bit of time to get my printmaking up and running so I am currently taking on the challenge of INKTOBER.

Today I will be posting more than one picture because it is already the October 4.  I decided to take my own advice and start drawing everyday.  This was something I was always telling my students.  It amazed me how many people forgot how important it is to work out your ideas on paper before going to the press.

Printmaking is an art form used by artist to create multiples of their work.  As a class the student's created a print exchange where they made an edition of prints and then gave one print to each of their class mates.

It was a joy to see them problem solve and create wonderful characters.   Thanks Bill Nybo for helping.  Our first project was creating two finger puppets.  Next we focused on creating a vase or vessel.  It was made out of coils.  Our third project was a mask.  The students looked at different culture masks from around the world.  They then drew out an idea of what their mask would look like and then created it out of clay.  Unfortunately we ran out of time to glaze these wonderful pieces.
]]><![CDATA[Young Rembrandts!]]>Sun, 01 Feb 2015 20:35:38 GMThttp://www.annakjacobson.com/happenings/young-rembrandtsIn this class we worked with all types of paint.  We started by looking at the color  wheel and mixing and matching colors.  Color theory is an important part of painting.  The first paintings were created with watercolor.  The owls are an oil pastel resist with watercolor.  I taught this class by first doing a project as a group and then the students could create their own images with the same tools as the group project.  After the owls we started painting with tempera and then acrylic.  I think the students enjoyed the acrylic paint the most.  Our last project was a self-portrait.  We studied many different artist self-portraits.  The students  drew numerous portraits and then compose a painting from those drawings.  If you would like to see these self-portraits, they will be hanging in the Front Gallery of The Arts Center starting some time in March.  I will post the dates when they are finalized.
