I need to start by saying I am sorry this took almost a month to post.  This is the last arts after school class.  It was about perspective.  The class was a great end to the year.  The giant white wall sculpture was created in the manner of the sculptor, Louise Nevelson.  The piece was created by all the 5th grade students in the Jamestown schools along with the 6th grade from St. Johns Academy and the Arts After School perspective class. 

Here it is the 2nd to the last Arts After School session for this school year.  This session started out with a canceled first day because of a snow storm...March 31.  From that point on our class didn't follow the path I envisioned.  We were lucky and had the dance resident, Katherine join our class for a whole week.  The kids enjoyed loved it.   I got to participate.  I enjoyed learning about another form of art.  A big Thank You to Katherine for all her hard work.  While learning about dance we work on the structure of the face with portraits and then the cultural importance of masks.  The masks are paper mache and tinfoil.  I would suggest this method to anyone thinking about making masks with kids.  If you have questions about the process let me know I am happy to share.

The past four weeks have gone by so fast...I have been teaching an adult watercolor class.  I enjoy my students.  They have wonderful questions and are ready to learn.  I enjoy seeing how their style and personality comes out in each painting that we do as a group.  The final painting for the class was one of their choosing.

It has been three crazy weeks with 20 crazy little monsters and their creators.  First the students did five full drawings of monsters they would like to create.  We then discussed who to create each one and what supplies would be needed.  The students then narrowed it down to one.  It has been fun for me to look back at the paper mache creatures we created in September.  The students have come a long way with their construction skills.  They worked very hard on keeping their monsters balanced.  The paintings above the paper mache are a ink plot monster they created with liquid waters and colored sharpies.  If you are interested in seeing the students' paper mache monsters and their books from the previous class, please stop by the arts center in the near future.  They will be on display in the gallery.  I will post the dates of the exhibition.

During the weeks of "The Book Lives On..." the students created a variety of different styles of book.  Each book had a story or information the student chose.  They used different mediums from paint to collage.  I enjoyed this class because I got to do a book a day as a demo.  The books featured below: Theater, Story boards for the flip books, Accordion Pop-Up, Flower and Accordion.  The self-portrait accordion pop-up in the middle is a group project.  Even though this was a hard class the students enjoyed themselves and made some wonderful books.
